“The term “smart renovation” refers to the process of
improving facilities and homes to increase efficiency and
create a healthier environment
for the individual building, its inhabitants, and the
environment as a whole. The term is often used as a synonym
for “green renovation,” because frequently the best way to cut
costs is to use water, electricity, and fuels more
efficiently. These renovations can have lasting impacts on
more than just the environment, however, because healthier
workplaces and homes can also result in healthier, more
productive staff, visitors and owners. Businesses may have to
invest a large sum of money to “retro-commission” their
facilities, but the initial investment can be paid back
quickly thanks to both more efficient staff and more efficient
lighting and HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, and air
