1. Featured Healthcare Project: Arrhythmia Institute:
(Architectural/Engineering Services by Bernstein & Assoc., Architects)

This state-of-the-art cardiology center project for a cardiology department, headed by a world-renowned cardiologist, is currently in the design phase. The project scope and location were arrived at after detailed programming sessions and an extensive search throughout the entire hospital for a contiguous 12,000sf for the institute, which was convenient for patients and well-located relative to related departments. The final location found required relocation of two non-clinical departments, bringing the total sf of the project, including relocations, to 23,500sf.

The main program elements of the new Arrhythmia Institute are:

• Patient/Visitor Support Space

• Patient Prep/Recovery Suite

• Lab Suite including (4) Electrophysiology Labs

• Administration

• Mechanical/Electrical Support Space

The Electrophysiology Labs incorporate state-of-the-art electrophysiology equipment from equipment vendors Siemens and Stereotaxis. Lab modalities include single-head and dual-head EP labs.

Introduction of the above 12,000 sf high-tech department into an older, lower-tech space, required a complete upgrade of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure to the floor.

Completion of this state-of-the-art health care facility is expected in 2008.

2. Featured Healthcare Project: Cancer Center:
(Project Management Services by Empire Projects, Inc.)

This 20,000 sf cancer center is being project managed by Empire Projects, Inc., a project management company with a specialty in healthcare design and construction. Our client is a partnership between four practice groups: oncology, radiation oncology, vascular surgery and breast surgery.

The project includes a complete re-working of an existing warehouse building to house a state-of-the-art healthcare facility. The facility involves weaving together the four practices in one facility, and sophisticated radiation oncology equipment including a new Varian Linear Accelerator Room and Simulator Room., as well as accommodation for a new mobile MRI next to the building.

Introduction of the above 20,000 sf high-tech department into an older, warehouse space, required a complete upgrade of the architectural, structural, site, mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure of the site.

With our extensive knowledge of design and construction issues, we were able to reduce the cost of the project by $500,000 within our first month on the project, and look forward to further opportunities to reduce costs moving forward.

Our services have involved complete project management services including: management of value-engineering changes to project which saved client $500,000, competitive selection of mechanical/electrical engineering company, competitive selection of interior design firm, re-orientation from sole source to competitively-bid construction services, creation of contractor bid list, management of bid process, management of construction process, and management of hazmat identification/removal.

Completion of the project is expected in 2008.

• Gut Rehab of 85 Bed Inpatient Psychiatric Center

• New Ambulatory Surgery Center including (3) Operating Rooms

• Multiple New Pharmacies including USP 797-Compliant Cleanrooms and Anterooms, Pyxis Installations and Pharmacy Master Plans  

Narcotics Rehabilitation :

• Narcotics Rehab Center for 800 Patients 

Pathology :

• Multiple Pathology Department Renovations 

Oncology :

• Project Management of New Oncology Center with (25) Chemotherapy Treatment Bays
